OVERVIEW & HISTORICAL CONTEXT
A commemorative memorial booklet published as the primary supplement (Furoku 1) with the March 1984 issue of Animage magazine. It celebrates the public premiere of the "Sherlock Hound" anime series.
Production on the Miyazaki-directed episodes began in 1981–1982 but was abruptly shelved due to copyright disputes with the Arthur Conan Doyle estate. Following the resolution of these legal issues, Tokuma Shoten arranged for two completed episodes ("The Blue Carbuncle" and "Treasure Under the Sea") to debut theatrically as companion featurettes alongside the nationwide roadshow premiere of Hayao Miyazaki's "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" on March 11, 1984.
